PWHL Detroit Signs Draft Picks Brandli, Borgiel

Detroit’s expansion PWHL team announced the signing of their first two draft picks – goaltender Andrea Brandli and defender Casey Borgiel – to contracts on Friday.

Both players were selected in the second round of the 2026 PWHL Draft, held at Detroit’s Fox Theater. Detroit did not have a first-round draft pick, having traded it to PWHL Las Vegas for Hillary Knight.

Brandli, who is expected to be the team’s starting netminder after leading Switzerland to a bronze medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, was signed to a three-year deal.

Borgiel – a native of Port Huron who spent the last two seasons at Colgate University – signed for one season.

Detroit now has nine forwards, seven defenders, and two goalies under contract. They have four forward draft picks currently unsigned.
