Atlanta Thrashers’ star Dany Heatley and teammate Dan Snyder were injured in a high-speed, one-car accident late Monday night.
Snyder is in critical condition following Tuesday morning surgery for a depressed skull fracture. The lone passenger in the car, Snyder was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.
Heatley, the driver of the Ferrari, suffered a broken jaw.
The Ferrari left the road and struck a wall in front of an apartment complex at approximately eighty miles per hour.
Heatley has been charged with driving recklessly and with serious injury by vehicle.
A former second-overall draft pick in 2000, Heatley was Atlanta’s scoring leader last season with 41 goals and 48 assists. He was named MVP of the 2003 NHL All-Star Game in Florida after scoring four goals.
Snyder scored 10 goals and added four assists in 36 games last season for the Thrashers. He has split much of his professional career between the Thrashers and their minor-league affiliates after signing with Atlanta in 1999.
