White Out with Broken Cheekbone, Smith Called Up

Ansar Khan reports that Red Wings defenseman Ian White will miss one to two weeks with a broken cheekbone.

White suffered the injury, as well as a cut under his eye, blocking a shot in the third period of Detroit’s 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars. His efforts prevented a goal that would have tied the game at three.

Mike Commodore will jump into the Red Wings’ lineup on Tuesday in St. Louis, with Brendan Smith having been called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins to serve the final game of his five-game suspension.

Either White or Todd Bertuzzi – who has missed the last four games with a sinus infection – will be placed on short-term injured reserve to make room for Smith.
