The Detroit Red Wings announced their 2026 preseason exhibition schedule on Tuesday.

As the first preseason under the new collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and the NHLPA, it sees the number of games halved from eight to four. As such, several matchups that had become traditions – including a home-and-home against the Toronto Maple Leafs to end the preseason slate – have been abandoned.

Instead, Detroit will have a pair of games against the Columbus Blue Jackets, a visit to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and will host the Buffalo Sabres.

The Red Wings also confirmed that training camp will take place in Detroit rather than Traverse City.

After two years of Prospect Games between the Red Wings and the Dallas Stars, a four-team Prospect Tournament is back, also taking place in Detroit. In addition to the Red Wings and Stars, prospects from the Blue Jackets and Penguins will participate in this year’s edition.

The full exhibition schedule is as follows:

Date Opponent Venue Time
September 21, 2025 Columbus Blue Jackets Nationwide Arena 7:00 PM
September 22, 2025 Pittsburgh Penguins PPG Paints Arena 7:00 PM
September 24, 2025 Buffalo Sabres Little Caesars Arena 7:00 PM
September 26, 2025 Columbus Blue Jackets Little Caesars Arena 7:00 PM
