Defenseman Radim Simek and a seventh round draft pick come back to Detroit in return. Simek was immediately assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Acquired via trade from the Edmonton Oilers last summer, Kostin had regularly been a healthy scratch for the Red Wings when their forwards were healthy.
The move clears $2 million off Detroit’s salary cap hit for the rest of this season and for 2024-25. It also clears up a roster spot for Detroit’s rumored promotion of Jonathan Berggren from Grand Rapids to Detroit.
How do you feel about the playoffs?
I’ll probably feel a lot better if they can win tonight. Losing to Florida and Colorado burned up some of the buffer they’d built up but they were games they were “supposed” to lose. That means they need to win the games they’re “supposed” to win.
