Tootoo Clears Waivers

Detroit Red Wings forward Jordin Tootoo cleared waivers at noon on Thursday. He can now be sent to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins at any point in the next ten games or thirty days but the team has said they won’t make that move immediately.

Should Tootoo be sent down, it would clear one roster spot and $925,000 in salary cap space for the Red Wings. Both will be necessary when Jonathan Ericsson comes off long-term injured reserve, which is expected to happen next week.

The Red Wings could also still attempt to trade Tootoo, keeping up to 50% of his salary to make such a move more palatable for a potential trade partner.

In eight games played this season, Tootoo has no points, a -4 plus/minus, and five penalty minutes from his fight to open Monday’s game in Winnipeg.
