The Detroit Red Wings and backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson agreed to terms on a one-year contract on Thursday.

The deal is reportedly worth around the $1.5 million salary he earned on his previous two-year deal with the Red Wings.

Gustavsson, 29, made 27 regular season appearances for Detroit during the 2013-14 season, finishing with a 16-5-4 record, a 2.63 goals against average, and a .907 save percentage. He also made two playoff starts while Jimmy Howard was out sick, losing both while picking up a 2.71 GAA and a .917 save percentage.

In the lockout-shortened 2013 season, Gustavsson made only seven appearances, missing most of the year with groin injuries. Those injuries carried into the 2013-14 season, which saw him injured five times as he missed 18 games.

Gustavsson’s signing relegates Petr Mrazek to the starting role with the Grand Rapids Griffins for one more season.
