The Detroit Red Wings announced on Wednesday the signing of defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a six-year contract extension.

As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Reportedly it carries a $4.25 million average annual salary, a $1 million raise over his current contract.

The only Red Wing signed to a contract past the 2020 end-date of Ericsson’s is captain Henrik Zetterberg, who is signed until 2021.

Selected with the final draft pick of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft (ninth round, 291st overall), Ericsson made his North American debut with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2006-07 and earned a call-up to the Red Wings the following season. After 22 playoff games in 2009, he joined the Red Wings full-time for the 2009-10 campaign. He has amassed 292 games played, scoring 14 goals and 48 assists in that time.

The signing leaves Kyle Quincey as the Red Wings’ lone pending unrestricted free agent defenseman. Danny DeKeyser is scheduled to be a restricted free agent.
