Red Wings’ 2013 Schedule Includes Twelve Back-to-Backs

401

The condensed 2013 schedule for the Detroit Red Wings will see them play on consecutive days twelve times, with those 24 games counting for fully half of their 48-game slate.

Of the twelve times, four sets are in the same city. The Red Wings host the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings on February 9 and 10, the Nashville Predators and Vancouver Canucks on February 23 and 24, the Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche on March 31 and April 1, and the Kings and Predators on April 24 and 25.

They also play four times with less than 24 hours between games.

Like in the lockout-shortened 1995 season, all of Detroit’s games are against Western Conference teams.

The Wings will open on the road against the St. Louis Blues on January 19, then visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on January 21 before their home opener on January 22 against the Dallas Stars. The pair of games on April 24 and 25 will close out their home schedule and they wrap up their regular season in Dallas on April 27.

Dispite the condensed schedule, the Red Wings will make four West Coast road trips. They visit Los Angeles and the San Jose Sharks on February 27 and 28, then they see the three Western Canadian teams on March 13 – 16. After one game back home, they face visit the Anaheim Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes and San Jose again from March 22 – 28 (with the first two games of that trip being in Anaheim). They’re back in Calgary and Vancouver on April 17 and 20.

The lone home-and-home series of the season will be against the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 9 and 10.
