  • Looks like Yzerman is out for the rest of the playoffs with a scratched cornea and a broken eye socket (ouch!).  What a freak accident.  The report that I read said that he hasn’t lost vision is in eye though, so it looks like he’ll make a recovery from this.

Is this something the Wings can rally behind to win the next two against the Flames?  Let’s hope so!  They need some spark in order to come out of this series.  If they play Game 6 like they played Game 5, they deserve to take the rest of the summer off.

Outside of maybe Joseph, Draper and Maltby, I haven’t seen anything about the Red Wings that have really impressed me during the postseason.

  • i have not heard exactly what stevies injury was, as far as damage extent, but did read briefly on tsn.ca that it was a 4 1/2 surgery..hopefully he will be ok

to classy of a player to end it this way

  • When will this guy say enough is enough? He needs to retire and go enjoy his family.

  • Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Stevie Y. I hope that is not my last time to see him on the ice. I hope he has a full recovery and we can see him on the ice to finish off a stellar career. He is one of the classiest individuals in the NHL and spent his entire career in one NHL city.

  • Yea he stayed even when the Wings wanted to trade him to his home town of Ottawa. He also stayed and didn;t take a much needed pay cut this season.

  • Keep Yzerman on the team for as long as he wants to play on it.  He deserves it.  Focus on getting rid of some of the other “crusty” members of the Red Wings organization.

  • He is crusty and he cost the Wings the Cup by not retiring, Feds would have stayed if he retired.

  • He wasn’t the problem with the Wings this season.  He didn’t play in Game 6 against the Flames and they still managed to lose that one.

  • They need to tell Stevie that the big bucks are not coming unless he earns it. Incentive and stats contract is the only way I would want him back.Or let him do a Foresberg and sit all year and play in the Play offs.

    Shadyrock May 7, 2004 2:57 AM
  • The incentive and bonus structured contract sounds good to me.  Pay him $1 million in salary and tell him he’ll get $5 million more if he can win the cup.

    eyetricks May 11, 2004 3:24 AM
  • If theres a salary cap, the wings wont be able to offer him $5million. maybe 2 or 3, but not 5. Shanny could be let go because of his contract and nonproficient performance. at least shanny has a few years left in him.

  • Now Yzerman is picked for the Olympics, what a joke! Do these people not see he is finished? Why doesn’t he just go enjoy his family? Yzerman is all about Yzerman. It’s starting to be sad to see him hang on. Even Messier has realized he should move over and he has more left than Stevie.
