I missed most of tonight’s game so I won’t try a recap. Instead I’m just going to restate a random fact I was tweeting about after the game.
With this win, the Red Wings are now 5-2 on the season. That makes this is the first season that Detroit has ever started 0-2 and then won five in a row to go to 5-2.
The only other time the franchise ever went 4-2 after starting with a pair of losses was their first-ever season, the 1926-27 campaign as the Detroit Cougars.
That means that the only two times Detroit has ever started 0-2 and then rattled off four consecutive wins were in 1926 and 2016. Both seasons were their last in their then-current arena (Border Cities Arena then, Joe Louis Arena now). Both seasons featured a 4-1 loss to the league’s southernmost team in Game Two (the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1926, the Florida Panthers in 2016). Both of the winning streaks included a one-goal win over the New York Rangers.
Obviously this means absolutely nothing. I just think it’s kind of interesting.
