Today marks DetroitHockey.Net’s nineteenth birthday and, with it, the start of our twentieth season.
I’ve spent a lot of time in the past couple years talking about logos and uniforms so I think it’s appropriate that I use this time to formally unveil the site’s 20th Season logo.
The logo is based on our “promotional” logo, featuring the DetroitHockey.Net shield in a roundel. This time, the roundel is broken by a bar across the middle containing the years 1996 and 2016. The site name in the top half of the roundel is given a more condensed type treatment and, with the year of establishment already used, the bottom half of the roundel contains the “Twentieth Season” text. Additionally, the thickness of all of the different circles are tweaked from the base logo.
The idea behind this was to, unlike the Grand Rapids Griffins, create a logo that look like it belonged next to all of the rest of our logos.
There’ll probably be some merch with this logo available sooner or later. I keep threatening to rebuild the DH.N store so I’ve been holding off on that (and a couple other new pieces of merch) until I decide what to do there. I have a handful of promotional pucks that may make their way out into the world, too. Unlike professional teams, though, there’s not a whole lot of need for a logo like this. It just helps serve as a reminder of how far we’ve come.
