Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall has been suspended for one game, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced on Tuesday.
Kronwall will miss Detroit’s Game Seven matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The suspension comes as a result of Kronwall’s hit on Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov late in the second period in Game Six. DoPS determined that Kronwall led with his forearm to make contact with Kucherov’s head while leaving his feet.
No penalty was called on the play.
Detroit general manager Ken Holland’s only statement was, “I disagree with the decision.”
