With Justin Abdelkader expected to miss the Red Wings’ Tuesday-night matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes and Pavel Datsyuk nursing an ankle injury, Detroit called up forward Landon Ferraro from the Grand Rapids Griffins on Monday.
Ferraro made his NHL debut with the Red Wings last season, going without a point in a four-game stint.
For the Griffins this year, Ferraro has 27 goals and 15 assists for 42 points in 70 games.
Ferraro, 23, was selected by the Red Wings in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, 32nd overall. He is in his fourth professional season.
The Red Wings also assigned forward Zach Nastasiuk to the Griffins, as his season with the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack came to a close.
