The Detroit Red Wings announced on Tuesday the signing of restricted free agent Danny DeKeyser to a two-year deal.
Financial terms were not formally announced but the contract reportedly carries a $2.187 million salary cap hit.
DeKeyser, 24, joined the Red Wings as a free agent out of Western Michigan University in 2013. In 2014, his first full season with Detroit, he scored four goals and added 19 assists for 23 points in 65 games. He was named the Red Wings’ rookie of the year for the effort and earned a spot with Team USA at the World Championships after the Red Wings were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Boston Bruins.
The defenseman was Detroit’s last restricted free agent left to be signed before the start of training camp this weekend.
DeKeyser will once again be a restricted free agent upon the deal’s expiration.
