In a Sunday afternoon matchup between the two teams, the Detroit Red Wings were blanked by the St. Louis Blues, 1-0.

St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliot made 28 saves to earn the shutout victory. Detroit netminder Jimmy Howard allowed only one goal on 25 shots against but took the loss with his team unable to make a dent at the other end of the rink.

The game’s only goal came with 3:32 remaining in the second period, when Chris Porter drove to the net to find a loose puck after his own initial shot, knocking it past Howard as the Detroit netminder fell to the ice.

The Blues had two power plays and the Red Wings had three, with no special teams scoring taking place.

Detroit forward Riley Sheahan made his season debut in place of Jordin Tootoo. Sheahan had been called up in case Henrik Zetterberg was unable to play but Zetterberg was in the lineup. Sheahan was returned to the Grand Rapids Griffins after the game.
