After a couple days off, the Red Wings are back in action tonight as they host the St. Louis Blues. It’ll be the first meeting between the teams since the Blues’ rout of Detroit in St. Louis to open the season two weeks ago.
The Blues are coming off a 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets last night while the Red Wings last played on Tuesday, a 4-1 win of their own over the Dallas Stars.
Detroit is expecting no lineup changes from Tuesday’s game, marking the first time this season for the Wings to keep the same lineup for two games in a row.
St. Louis will swap out Brian Elliot in goal for Jaroslav Halak. Elliot went last night against Columbus while Halak was in net for the opener against the Wings.
Game time is 7:30 PM on FSD. I’m expecting to catch this one on the radio, so I won’t be doing any in-game updates.

Amazing how the refs can dictate a game…

I know it’s a new beginning however, that C looks so different. It’s hard to believe or accept that number five is gone!

Because this game was on NHL Network it was blacked out on GameCenter Live. The hotel I’m in tonight doesn’t get NHLN (or FSD) so I was out of luck. Didn’t stop the league from taking money for GCL, though. I suppose that’s a rant for another time. Probably later this month, the next time I’m travelling.
Since I didn’t see this one, I won’t pretend to have any particular insights into it. Great to see a win, of course, and that Jimmy Howard looks okay after an injury scare.
Kent Huskins being out seems like a minor thing but he has been really solid on the third pair since joining the team. We’ll see if he’s okay to go tomorrow in Columbus or if Brian Lashoff is back in the lineup. Again, I didn’t see the hit that took him out, so I won’t speak to the accuracy of the call on the play.
I saw the replay of the final goal of the game, Zetterberg’s empty-netter to complete the hat trick. Great job by him to fight through some ridiculously petulant stuff from Oshie. Any complaints about the officiating can’t forget that play, as the refs weren’t going to call anything on it. Sounds like an awful night all around for the officials.
Back at it in Columbus tomorrow night. I’m moving in the wrong direction as while the Wings will be heading to Ohio, I’ll be leaving it.
