The Red Wings visit the Chicago Blackhawks tonight in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
Detroit had been expecting no lineup changes from Tuesday night’s win over the St. Louis Blues, but then yesterday happened. Darren Helm is out, with Gustav Nyquist up from the Grand Rapids Griffins to replace him on the third line. Joakim Andersson remains in the lineup on the fourth line. Jimmy Howard gets the start.
Game time is 8:30 PM. TV for this one is Fox Sports Plus, as the Pistons are on the normal FSD channel.

Over at the News, Kulfan says that Nyquist will play on the fourth line with Andersson and Emmerton. We’ll see, the Wings have said in the past that they don’t want to use Nyquist as a grinder.
Clark RasmussenDecember 30, 2011 11:03 AM
You can almost bet he will be in Grand Rapids next season.
The Wings are set to sign him but it’ll make for an interesting logjam in goal. MacDonald will probably backup Howard next year, which means it’s Pearce and McCollum in GR. Mrazek in Toledo? Or does he beat someone else out?
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 1:42 AM
Pavs makes anyone (Red Wings) immediately around him play that much better…
DetroitRiverDecember 31, 2011 1:49 AM
Yes Abby!!!

Abs jumps onto the loose puck and knocks it over Crawford. Good jump up there.
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 1:54 AM
Lidsy got away with a penalty right in front on the net on Hossa there… Could’ve been a penalty shot.
DetroitRiverDecember 31, 2011 1:59 AM
Anyone surprised there?
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 2:04 AM
And the refs call a bad hooking on Lidsy to make up for the last blown call????
DetroitRiverDecember 31, 2011 2:05 AM
For the record, I hate the penalty shot call but that was a really good shot by Toews.
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 2:08 AM
For the record, I really like and respect the Hawks coach and team but I can’t stand the Chicago fans. They’re right down there in the bottom dregs with trashville as far as class goes.

Strange, strange game, when the Wings goals are from Abdelkader and Commodore.
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 2:41 AM
Just checked back in and I missed the Commo goal.
DetroitRiverDecember 31, 2011 2:44 AM
Mickey saw that one coming. Hossa is too good to be left that open, and he got himself that space.
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 2:45 AM
Well that was blown coverage…

From what I saw, he will beat out someone else. He allowed two goals on forty some shots. Both goals came on the powerplay. His angles are near perfect, he challenges the shooter very well, and his control over the five-hole are pretty good. Granted this is only the junior level however, he looked pretty solid. His lateral movement is also exceptional. Let’s see how the rest of the tournament goes…

Babs did say Abbey earned the ice time…

Can someone tell me what Hudler says in the Red Wings commercial where they bring the “home” to the Joe?
SYfanSDDecember 31, 2011 3:22 AM
Drapes and Ozzie are horrible advertisers…
SYfanSDDecember 31, 2011 3:23 AM
Two for one sale on hits????
SYfanSDDecember 31, 2011 3:25 AM
sh*t….
SYfanSDDecember 31, 2011 3:26 AM
Damn. Hell of a shot.
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 3:27 AM
It’s a shooting gallery!
SYfanSDDecember 31, 2011 3:28 AM
I would love to see Kronner crank Hossa or Kane.
SYfanSDDecember 31, 2011 3:31 AM
Zetterberg almost had it there. Get the feeling that was Detroit’s chance.
Clark RasmussenDecember 31, 2011 3:48 AM
Wings looked like a tired team in the third. Close fought until then but Detroit didn’t look like they thought they could mount a comeback.

The same info has been scrolling on the NHL Network ticker since last night. More than likely Nyquist will be a game time decision as to which line he will be with. On another note, I got a good look at prospect Petr Mrazek. The kid looked pretty solid in the win against Team USA. You can almost bet he will be in Grand Rapids next season.
First off, a reminder that I’m still looking for feedback on the Retro Hockey Challenge charity idea.
