The Detroit Red Wings announced on Monday that they have signed defenseman Niklas Kronwall to a seven-year contract extension.
As per club policy, financial terms were not officially announced. TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports that Kronwall will make $33.25 million over the life of the contract, a $4.75 million annual cap hit.
The deal will keep Kronwall in Detroit through the 2018-19 season. Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen are the only Red Wings signed to longer contracts.
Kronwall joined Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk as an alternate captain for the team this season.
