  • The Wings look to rebound from their 7-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday as they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight.

Columbus remains winless on the season but gets defenseman James Wisniewski back in the lineup, as he’s served his eight-game suspension for a preseason hit.

Detroit will go with Ty Conklin in net for the second consecutive game, as the team has given Jimmy Howard the night off to spend at home with his wife and newborn son. Joey MacDonald will back up Conklin.

Cory Emmerton and Fabian Brunnstrom will be the healthy scratches, with Drew Miller centering Patrick Eaves and Tomas Holmstrom on the fourth line. Mike Commodore remains out with a knee injury on defense.

Game time is 7:00. FSD has the TV.

  • Well this isn’t a good start.

  • Ugly goal against, Conks. Gotta be faster.

  • Battle of bad goalies. How the hell did that get in?

  • This is already a weird game.

  • Didn’t I say something about Conklin holding the post last game?

    Clark Rasmussen October 25, 2011 11:26 AM
  • Well, that was less than fun.

  • Is it bad that when they announced the injury to Pronger and the details of getting off the ice that it made me think it was retribution?

  • Didn’t get to post until now but the game at the caps the other night was disapointing to say the least. When the craps scored their 6th goal I decided to leave (BTW, I was sitting right next to the Wings tunnel entrance!). As I was leaving a pretty young las who was cat calling the Wings all night gleefully told me to go home as I crossed her in my row. I told her let me know when her team finally wins a cup. She then sheepishly said we already won one cup. “ONE?!? WOW!” I shouted in her face. I told her her craps can have the victory, we’ll take the 11 cups.

What happened to pronger? Yes, I’m thinking bad thoughts…

Took a stick to the face and went off the ice yelling apparently.

  • Remember when I said that the Wings needed to remember their loss to the Capitals (rather than just forget it and move on) so that they wouldn’t do it again? Told ya so.

To a certain extent, tonight’s loss to the Blue Jackets (Columbus’ first win of the season, which will be repeated endlessly I’m sure) felt a lot like Saturday’s game never ended. The Red Wings couldn’t clear their zone, couldn’t gain the offensive zone, couldn’t get set up once they did get into the opposing end, weren’t getting shots through to the net… Pretty much everything went wrong.

At the other end of the ice, the Jackets played like a team determined not to lose. They held the puck, they got shots through, they followed up with rebounds. And they got some help from Ty Conklin, who had some decent stops but didn’t look good on either of the first two goals.

Once again, the Wings can’t just forget this one. Given what that this game happened at all, though, I don’t know that they won’t try to.

  • Wings with a solid PK there. Hopefully a sign that they’re turning things around.

  • Well, Conklin gets a good stop and then a redirection gets past him. Ugly night.

  • Brutal shift by Ericsson. Icing, giveaway, penalty.
