Forward Darren Helm could miss the start of the regular season after suffering a shoulder injury in the second day of the Red Wings’ training camp on Monday.
Helm sprained his right acromioclavicular joint during a drill where he got caught up with defenseman Logan Pyett and went head-first into the boards. That joint is where the collarbone connects to the shoulder.
“I was definitely looking forward to coming in here, playing well, playing some exhibition games, proving that Detroit and everyone else that I belong here,” said Helm. “I’ll just do what I can to make sure I’m ready.”
He is expected to miss two to four weeks while recovering, including spending the next few days off the ice.
