Penalty Killed

The Detroit News has a recap of last night’s mess in San Jose so I’m not going to bother with it today.

This marks two games – and two nights – in a row where the Wings have seemingly forgotten to show up.

It’s easy to look at the scoresheet and say “Oh, San Jose scored all their goals on the power play so Detroit must have played will at even strength.” For the most part, that’s true. The problem is that they took half a game’s worth of penalties, that leads to a lot of power play goals for the opponent.

The Red Wings played a horribly undiciplined game. They took bad penalties and then blew defensive assignments. That can’t continue.
