The Detroit Red Wings signed forward Mikael Samuelsson to a three-year contract extension on Saturday. As per club policy, the deal’s financial terms were not announced.

Samuelsson, 29, has scored 21 goals and 17 assists for the Red Wings this season, his first with the club. He also played at the Olympics for Sweden.

He was originally a fifth-round choice of the San Jose Sharks and also played for the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Florida Panthers.

Samuelsson returned to the Detroit roster on Thursday after missing nine games with a wrist injury.
