Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom has agreed to a three-year deal with the team, reportedly worth $5.4 million.
Holmstrom is an integral part of the Red Wings’ power play unit, parking himself in front of the goal and taking the punishment that it brings just to be in position to deflect a shot or put in a rebound.
The 31-year-old has 15 goals and 15 assists this season.
The Red Wings have also been negotiating with Kris Draper, but may not complete a deal before the start of the playoffs.
The Red Wings’ front office has a policy of not negotiating during the playoffs to allow the players to focus entirely on the games.
