Detroit Red Wings rookie defenseman Niklas Kronwall will return to Detroit for further evaluation on Friday after suffering a broken leg during pre-game warmups before the Red Wings’ Thursday-night matchup with the Los Angeles Kings.
Kronwall’s skate reportedly got caught in a rut in the ice as he turned, causing his leg to twist and buckle under him.
He was helped off the ice and defenseman Jamie Rivers was quickly inserted into the lineup to replace him.
Without further assessment of the injury, no timetable has been set for his return.
